Mexico adopts new omnibus waste law with take-back requirements

On October 8, 2003 President Vincente Fox signed into law a new federal omnibus waste law in Mexico that will institute sweeping changes to the way wastes, including end-of-life electronic products, are currently managed. The law, entitled the Ley General para la Prevención y Gestión Integral de los Residuos or the “Waste Law” or “Law,” was passed by the Senate in April of this year and the House in December of 2002. The Law will go into effect on January 6, 2004.
