Matrix of Pending Recycling and Product Take-back Legislation in the USA

Product Take-back

CA AB549, which specifies that CalRecycle will only reimburse covered collectors and recyclers for devices that were used in the state, was enacted into law September 25, 2012. In a special session, Massachusetts introduced three bills (HB229, HB234 and HB4451). HB4451 is a study order, and while HB's 229 and 234 are not extended producer responsibility bills, they are added to the matrix for informational purposes. Massachusetts also reintroduced the following product stewardship bills: HB2003 and HB2017.
