Introduction

Swiss requirements on cadmium differ from the EU requirements.

In addition Switzerland has a cadmium restriction for several types of batteries batteries as well as for zinc-plated products.

The legislation has been laid down to protect the environment from cadmium contamination. Part of this legislation has direct relevance for products imported into the EU. This document describes these product-related legislative requirements:

  1. Cadmium prohibition


  2. Cadmium restriction in packaging materials


  3. Cadmium restriction in batteries


  4. Cadmium in zinc plated products


  5. Cadmium prohibition in electrical and electronic equipment

Defined Restrictions:
All articles: Prohibited
Packaging: 100 ppm for sum of heavy metals
Zinc coated products : 0.025% by mass
Batteries: carbon zinc batteries 0.015%, non-removable batteries 0.0005%
Electronics: 0.01%
