Introduction

In Lithuania EU requirements on cadmium are transposed into national law. The legislation has been laid down to protect the environment from cadmium contamination. Part of this legislation has direct relevance for products imported into the EU. This document describes these product-related legislative requirements:

  1. Cadmium restriction applicable to all products and product parts where cadmium is used to (1.1) colour specific materials, (1.2) stabilize specific materials, (1.3) plate specific products

  2. Cadmium restriction in packaging materials

  3. Cadmium prohibition in electrical and electronic equipment

Lithuania has implemented legislation transposing the RoHS Directive through Order No. V-28 of the Minister of Health dated as of 22 April 2004, amending the Lithuanian Hygienic Norm 36:2002 on Banned and Restricted Substances. This report discusses this RoHS-transposing legislation and its key provisions.

Defined Restrictions:
All articles: 0.01% by mass in specific plastics
Specified articles: prohibition (if used for cadmium plating)
