Introduction

California enacted several laws in recent years that place the responsibility for recycling and disposal of end-of-life electronics products on manufacturers, retailers, and consumers. These laws include:

  1. The Electronic Waste Recycling Act of 2003;
  2. The Cell Phone Recycling Act of 2004; and,
  3. The Rechargeable Battery Recycling Act of 2006.
  4. The Green Chemistry Initiative;
  5. The California Lighting Efficiency and Toxics Reduction Act; and,
  6. The Mercury Thermostat Collection Act of 2008.
