Introduction

This report provides an overview of legislation of the Czech Republic that imposes take-back obligations with respect to waste of electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE).

In 2002, the EU adopted the first take-back requirements for waste electrical and electronic equipment the WEEE Directive, also known as the "WEEE-1 Directive" (Directive 2002/96/EC of 27 January 2003 on waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE)).

In 2012, the EU adopted an amended WEEE Directive, also known as the "WEEE-2 Directive" (Directive 2012/19/EU of 4 July 2012 on waste electrical and electronic equipment). The WEEE-2 Directive must be transposed by Member States by 14 February 2014.

The Czech Republic has not yet transposed and implemented the WEEE-2 Directive.

This report provides an overview of the national provisions that differ from or complement the WEEE-1 Directive, including where the directives leave discretion to the Member States. For a detailed discussion of the WEEE-1 and WEEE-2 Directives, see the subject report on product take-back in European Union.

For take-back requirements for batteries and packaging, see the Country Reports for Czech Republic on batteries and packaging, respectively.
