Canada - Federal Summary

Canada is a federal parliamentary state. The executive branch is led by the prime minister, who is elected based on a nationwide vote. Parliament consists of the Senate (whose members are appointed) and the House of Commons (whose members are elected). Provincial governments are arranged similarly. They consist of a lieutenant governor (appointed by the prime minister), a premier (the leader of the party that wins a majority in province-wide elections of legislators), and a legislature (members representing local constituencies).
