Introduction

As the environment-friendliness of products has become a matter of international concern, there have been several movements in the international community such as the implementation of the EU Directive on Eco-Design Requirements for Energy-Using Products in August 2005.  It is commonly understood that about 70-80% of products’ environmental factors may be decided at product design stages.  Therefore, it has become increasingly common for governments and environmental non-government organizations (e-NGOs) to encourage consideration of the products’ influences on environment at this early stage of product design in order to promote the development and production of environmentally superior products.
