Introduction

Peru has technical regulations in place setting forth design and performance specifications for zinc-carbon batteries. Although there is no other body of regulations that exclusively addresses batteries, Peru's Reglamento de la Ley General de Residuos Sólidos (S.D. # 57/2004/PCM, the "General Waste Regulation") and Reglamento Nacional Para La Gestion y Manejo de Residuos de Aparatos Electricos y Electronicos (D.S. 001-2012-MINAM, the "E-Waste Regulation") set forth standards for the classification and disposal of wastes, including batteries.
