Ozone depleting solvents Summary

In the past, tetrachloroethane and its derivatives were used as solvents to clean and degrease metals, and in paints and pesticides. Commercial production of 1,1,2,2-tetrachloroethane for these uses has been banned in the United States. Presently it is used only as a chemical intermediate in the production of other chemicals.
