China - Energy Efficiency Updates

Published August 11, 2003

Energy Efficiency

The Chinese government has largely completed national agency restructuring efforts and appears to have brought the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) epidemic under control. With these issues largely resolved, the government agencies tasked with developing China's mandatory and voluntary energy efficiency standards programs are now able to focus on new work that may affect EIA-member products and operations. We have prepared a Special Report on China's energy efficiency programs to assist EIA members in understanding the current state-of-play of these programs. More specifically, this Special Report provides EIA members with our recent findings and observations concerning China's mandatory energy efficiency standards program and voluntary energy-efficient product certification scheme. Additionally, the Report includes a table identifying the key Chinese government and quasi-government organizations conducting energy efficiency work and summarizing our observations on the roles these organizations play in China's energy efficiency programs.
