In Greece, EU requirements on cadmium are transposed into national law. The legislation has been laid down to protect the environment from cadmium contamination. Part of this legislation has direct relevance for products imported into the EU. This document describes these product-related legislative requirements:

  1. Cadmium restriction applicable to all products and product parts where cadmium is used to (1.1) colour specific materials, (1.2) stabilize specific materials, (1.3) plate specific products

  2. Cadmium restriction in packaging materials

  3. Cadmium prohibition in electrical and electronic equipment

In Greece, restrictions applying to chemical constituents of electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) are set forth in the Presidential Decree 117/2004, published in the Government Gazette, Bulletin 82 on 5 March 2004 (the “Decree”), implementing the RoHS and WEEE Directives. The key provisions of the Decree relating to chemical restrictions are discussed in this report.

Greece has also adopted legislation implementing Directive 76/769/EC, which imposes marketing and use restrictions in respect of certain dangerous chemical substances. This legislation is reviewed very briefly below.

Defined Restrictions:
All articles: 0.01% by mass in specific plastics
Specified articles: prohibition (if used for cadmium plating)
Packaging: 100 ppm for sum of heavy metals
Electronics: 0.01%
