The Netherlands has transposed the EU Battery Directive 2006/66 of 6 September 2006 through the Ordinance on batteries and accumulators management 2008 (the "Regulation") issued by the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Innovation. The Regulation entered into force on 26 September 2008.

The Regulation applies to all types of batteries and accumulators regardless of their shape, volume, weight, material composition or use. It sets out design, and informational requirements, as well as chemical restrictions applying to batteries, and imposes battery collection and recycling obligations on producers and importers.
