India aims to deliver a sustained economic growth rate of 8% to 9% through 2031-32. The energy demand is expected to increase manifolds on account of accelerated industrialization, urbanization and an emerging consumer society. To meet the growing energy needs of all sectors and citizens, India needs to increase its primary energy supply by 3 to 4 times and electricity generation capacity about 6 times which is a mammoth task. Enhancing energy efficiency is thus recognised as one of the most important means to secure India's energy requirements.
