One of the critical aspects of hazardous waste management is regulating the import into or export of waste from India. The Indian regulatory framework has undergone several changes in order to introduce more stringent norms for transboundary movement of hazardous waste. The changes were necessary to check the illegal import of hazardous wastes for dumping or disposal in India. Further, India is a Party to the Basel Convention. Therefore, it is under an obligation to address the issues concerning transboundary movement of hazardous wastes.
