Argentina currently has in place an import ban on certain batteries that fail to meet content thresholds for mercury, cadmium and lead. The Congress is also actively considering a number of bills that would impose mandatory take-back and/or labeling obligations on manufacturers and importers of covered batteries. Notably, Buenos Aires has moved ahead of the federal government and issued a resolution requiring producers and importers, among others, to prepare and implement management plans for take-back of covered batteries.
