Colombia bans the introduction or importation of hazardous wastes, toxic wastes and nuclear wastes.  Exports of hazardous wastes are only permitted when they cannot be environmentally and sanitarily managed in Colombia due to their complexity.  Colombia has ratified the Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Waste and their Disposal (“Basel Convention”), and exports of hazardous wastes must comply with associated controls and trade bans.  Authorizations for exports of hazardous wastes are handled through the Ministry of the Environment (“Minambiente”).
