Slovakia has adopted legislation implementing Directive 76/769/EC, which imposes marketing and use restrictions in respect of certain dangerous chemical substances. This legislation is reviewed very briefly below.

The implementation of the RoHS Directive in Slovakia was achieved by enacting the Waste Act of 2001, as amended by Act 733/2004 dated 6 December 2004 (hereinafter the “Waste Act”) (Act of 15 May 2001 No. 223/2001 Coll. on Waste Disposal and amending and supplementing certain acts), and Ministerial Order 208/2005 regarding WEEE Management, published on 19 May 2005, which provides details about registration, guarantee, marking, reporting, and RoHS exemptions. In 2006, the Waste Act and the Ministerial Order 208/2005wereamended, with the amendmentsentering into force in April 2007. The key provisions of this legislation are discussed in this report.

 This document describes these product-related legislative requirements:

  1. Cadmium restriction applicable to all products and product parts where cadmium is used to (1.1) colour specific materials, (1.2) stabilize specific materials, (1.3) plate specific products

  2. Cadmium restriction in packaging materials

  3. Cadmium prohibition in electrical and electronic equipment

Defined Restrictions:
All articles: 0.01% by mass in specific plastics
Specified articles: prohibition (if used for cadmium plating)
Packaging: 100 ppm for sum of heavy metals
Electronics: 0.01%
