The Canadian provinces, not the federal government, have jurisdiction over waste disposal issues, including packaging.  Nevertheless, packaging has been a priority of country-wide efforts to reduce the impact of products on municipal waste management systems and the environment.  The federal Energy Efficiency Act imposes labeling requirements for certain classes of energy-consuming products, but such requirements have not yet been established for any electronic products.
